The 9th Annual FIRST conference will be at the Marriott Hotel in Bristol, England. Situated on the River Avon close to the Severn Estuary, Bristol is a city of 380,000 people and a history dominated by sea trade for the past thousand years. Although the town was an important site for the Romans and the Normans it was the construction of a new quay in the 13th century which brought prosperity to the area.
English weather is notoriously fickle; in late June the temperature is usually a comfortable 24C (75F) but spells as varied as 32C (90F) or 19C (66F) can occur.
The language for the conference and all associated communication is English.
For examples of the difference between the English and American languages, see: http://pages.prodigy.com/NY/NYC/britspk/main.html

The 9th Annual FIRST conference will be at the Marriott Hotel in Bristol, England. Situated in the West of England about 170km (105 miles) from London, fast and frequent trains serve Bristol giving a journey time from London's Heathrow airport of about 2 3/4 hours.
Although Bristol has an airport, the only direct international flights are from Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Dublin.
It is recommended that attendees fly to London's Heathrow airport and complete the journey by train. The Marriott Hotel is a 15 minute walk, or 5 minute taxi ride from Bristol Temple Meads railway station.
For details of the train service to and from Bristol see http://www.rail.co.uk/greatwestern/home.htm
Ticket prices for the train can vary with the time of day, day of the week and the class of travel. However, a typical return (round-trip) ticket between Heathrow airport and Bristol Temple Meads station is about £61.
Despite apparent similarities, driving in the UK is significantly different from other countries. Anyone intending to drive in the UK is advised to contact their local motoring organization.
Parking is available in an immediately adjacent multi-storey public car park and is free to people staying at the Marriott Hotel or attending the conference.
