Honoring the international origin of its members, and in recognition of the global spread of computer networks and the common problems faced by computers owners, the FIRST conference is held in different parts of the world. Past conferences have been located in U.S. (Pittsburgh, Pleasanton, Hearndon, Denver, St. Louis, Boston, and Santa Clara), Germany (Karlsruhe), and England (Bristol).
The 1998 conference will continue to promote FIRST organization goals of world-wide co-ordination and co-operation, and for the very first time on its history it will be in a Latin American country. It will take place in Monterrey, México

Venue
The 10th Annual FIRST Conference and Workshop will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Monterrey, México. Capital city of the state of Nuevo León, Monterrey is located in the Northeast México and has a population of more than 3 million people.
Monterrey is located in a valley at the base of Madre Oriental rocky mountains range. The surroundings offer unique natural wonders for the entire family's fun and delight. Among them are: Cola de Caballo waterfall, Garcia 's caverns, Huasteca's canyon, Chipinque plateau, and Monterrey's trademark, the majestic Cerro de la silla (Saddle Mountain).
The Crowne Plaza Hotel is in the heart of one of the most important industrial and business cities in México. Centrally located on the main highway with a majestic view of the famous "Cerro de la Silla", the Crowne Plaza is within close proximity to the international Convention Center Cintermex. It is also within walking distance to the Museum of Contemporary Art, City Theater, shopping and other tourist attractions.
For Family amusement, visit the Plaza Sesamo park which offers water slides, mechanical games, and entertainment shows; The Bioparque Estrella where you can interact with more than 600 animals in their natural habitat; or the Planetarium, the perfect place to experience the wonders of technology through movies shown with the Omnimax system.
Arrangements have been made for a special room rate for conference attendees. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Crown Plaza Hotel; these are only guaranteed until May 21, 1998.

The special room rates for conference attendees are available from June 19th through June 27th.
Hotel costs are not included in the conference fee.
Each attendee is responsible for making their own hotel arrangements.
However, to assist attendees, ITESM/MxCERT will, if requested, pass their
details direct to the hotel.
Money and Banks The local currency is mexican pesos, whose rate of exchange as of March 10th, 1998 with US Dollars is roughly $8.35 mexican pesos per US dollar.
