2019 FIRST Regional Symposium – Small Island Developing States

FIRST is organizing a Symposium focused on Small Island Developing States in the Pacific Island region, generously supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia. The event will take place on November 5th, 6th and 7th of 2019 at the Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa in Nadi, Fiji. The program aims to target emerging cyber incident response and security teams in the region. The event will be open by invitation and application.
FIRST will run two newly developed breach workshops, during which security professionals will walk through a major security incident and will have to make decisions with significant impact. In addition, FIRST will be instructing a CSIRT Basic and Advanced training.

Call for Papers – FIRST Members Only
FIRST is organizing a Symposium focused on Small Island Developing States in the Pacific Island region, generously supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia. The event will take place on November 5th, 6th and 7th of 2019 at the Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa in Nadi, Fiji. As we are targeting emerging cyber incident response and security teams in the region specifically, the event will be open by invitation and application, and we will send out a note when applications open.
During the event, FIRST will run two newly developed breach workshops, during which security professionals will walk through a major security incident and will have to make decisions with significant impact. In addition, FIRST will be instructing a CSIRT Basic and Advanced training.
We are also looking for others to present. In total, there are two 30-minute, two 45-minute and three 30-minute presentation slots available (including Q&A). Some of these slots may be filled through partnerships with other organizations working on capacity development in the region. We are inviting FIRST members and non-members to submit proposals as part of a Call for Proposals (CFP).
Topics of interest
The following topics are of specific interest to this Symposium:
- Case studies, specifically of responses to incidents that involved partnership between Private Sector and Government;
- Presentations on open source tooling which is easy to adapt and use in the region;
- Specific examples of CSIRT cooperation successes that involved regions in which intra-region travel is challenging and limited;
- Security awareness building with young populations;
- Presentations by organizations and individuals with an existing commitment and knowledge of the region.
The Program Committee will peer-review all proposals and reserves the right to adapt or restructure submissions to ensure an interesting and compelling program. Marketing presentations will not be considered.
