18th April 2017 – The Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) today announced it is making available a public repository of conference presentations from the last twenty years of FIRST events.
FIRST is making available the materials, dating back to 1997, at https://www.first.org/resources/papers. FIRST events have been organized since 1989 in locations across the world, and bring together incident responders to discuss tools, techniques and experiences in responding to cybersecurity incidents.
Historically, FIRST presentation materials were made available to members only, with a small number published to the public. As part of this announcement, the total repository of over 750 presentations is now available to the public via the FIRST web site. Presentation topics include how to develop and build Incident Response teams, as well as defensive best practices against Distributed Denial of Service and targeted attacks. Only presentations for which the author originally permitted release are included in the archive.
Margrete Raaum, Chairwoman of FIRST, states: “We always stand on the shoulders of giants when responding to sophisticated security incidents. Rarely can an issue be tackled without leveraging a new iteration of a tool or technique which was first developed when our community was in its infancy. We are making this change to enable incident responders across the world, and across industries, to benefit from the learnings our community has made over the last twenty years”.
FIRST organizes its 29th Annual Conference, accompanied by training and working group meetings in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from June 11th through 16th of 2017. The FIRST conference is the organization’s main event for incident responders to share best practices in computer security.
