Special Interest Group Updates

We are happy to bring you some last updates from our SIGs before our next annual conference, such as the TLP SIG, and the NETSEC SIG.

The NETSEC SIG has grown to over 30 members in the past six months. The group is particularly active on Slack and in Zoom calls every two weeks. SIG members recently contributed a FIRST blog post reevaluating the use of Letters of Authorization (LOAs) for BGP route announcement authorization. The group also helped to prepare and foster work on a TCP port 179 (BGP) filtering risks and response effort. Immediately following FIRSTCON24 the SIG is providing a training class on network security for incident responders. One of the next areas of focus is on BGP route filtering.

Especially during NETSEC SIG video calls, there has substantive collaboration and lively discussion on a variety of topics including DDoS threats, BGP/routing security posture, and network security policies. The group is looking to expand its regular calls to accommodate people in different time zones. Anyone interested in network security issues is invited to join in!

At this annual conference, we again have a few SIGs that are not only meeting in person, but also give updates on their progress. A few will be giving a recorded update, but the following SIGs are expected on site:

  • Cyber Threat Intelligence SIG
  • Security Lounge SIG
  • AI Security SIG
  • DNS Abuse SIG
  • Law Enforcement SIG
  • Malware Analysis SIG
  • Metrics SIG
  • NETSEC SIG
  • TLP SIG

Also check out the on site trainings by some of the SIGs happening on Sunday as well as Saturday, if you still have the chance to optimize your stay. You can find them here or send to you by our email updates.
