The third meeting of the NM-SIG has been held on Thursday 21 June 2007, during the FIRST conference in Seville. Around 35 attendees joined discussions on various topics. The minutes of the meeting will be available for NM-SIG members soon.

SIG members took forward projects like whitelisting known-good large mailservers, and the concept of feedback-loops. The workshop, well-attended by an enthusiastic number of members, also initiated steps towards a new relationship with the APWG.

UK citizens are “walking like sheep, bleating,” into a total surveillance society, Bob Ayers, of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) warned today at the 19th Annual Conference of FIRST.

The 2007 August TC will be hosted by MyCERT/CyberSecurity Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the October TC in Lima, Peru, hosted by TERIS (Telefonica del Peru CSIRT). FIRST Members participation is expected on plenary sessions and hands-on courses.

By defining measures for effectiveness, identifying appropriate performance metrics, and determining appropriate approaches for evaluating systems, this metrics SIG aims to improve CSIRT incident management practices within the FIRST community.

The need to ensure fast and intelligible information flows between Computer Emergency Response Teams when vendors report vulnerabilities was the lead topic this week when FIRST’s Vendor SIG convened in Seville.
